About Design By Ball
Design By Ball is the creative studio brand founded by brothers Jon and Martin Ball — a duo with over a decade of experience in product design, brand building, and hands-on making.
Before launching Design By Ball, we co-founded Steel Vintage Ltd, which became one of the world’s leading names in premium industrial-style furniture. From bespoke desks and kitchens to large-scale commercial projects, our work was shipped globally to clients, including Rolex, Fred Perry, and Cloud Imperium Games. At its peak, Steel Vintage employed over 20 skilled craftspeople, designers, and support staff, generating over £2 million in revenue before winding down in late 2024.
Today, Design By Ball builds on that legacy with a broader creative focus. We offer product design, furniture design, project management, and consultancy, working with businesses, creators, and entrepreneurs who want to make things that matter. Whether we’re developing new furniture collections or shaping the identity of an emerging brand, everything we do is rooted in thoughtful design and a love for the creative process.

We’ve worked on various products—from luxury desktop accessories and sculptural pieces to kitchen cabinetry, wine cabinets, and bespoke one-offs. We approach each project with care, precision, and creativity, regardless of scale or complexity.

Manufacturing Support
We offer practical advice on prototyping and production, drawing from first-hand experience across a wide range of disciplines.
Our background in woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, powder coating, and assembly allows us to approach design with a deep understanding of how things are made.
We also have extensive knowledge of processes such as laser cutting, CNC machining, upholstery, and more—enabling us to design with manufacturing in mind and ensure a seamless journey from concept to completion.
